Our Story
We began as American Home Life Insurance founded by Clifford L. Smith in 1962. Clifford opened the North Little Rock Funeral Home in 1955 and bought an insurance charter that enabled him to write burial policies for more than the $500 face amount prescribed by the state of Arkansas.
For nearly 60 years, the company has been run with a sense of purpose and compassion unmatched by others in Central Arkansas. Working alongside the funeral business, we help our clients optimize and grow their business by offering pre-need solutions
Our History
Despite the fact that Clifford had no funeral home experience, he, his wife, Frances, and their two young children, Anne and John, embarked on this new adventure and opened the doors of North Little Rock Funeral Home on February 14, 1955.
In 1962, Clifford also founded a second company, American Home Life Insurance. In 1966, Clifford’s son, John, took over as president of the funeral home. And, shortly thereafter, Clifford’s daughter, Anne, became president of the insurance company.
For four decades, Anne ran the insurance company, working alongside her brother to help individuals with pre-planning expenses. This partnership shaped the success, evolution, and family legacy.
On October 1, 2020, John’s oldest son Jeff and his wife, Leslie, purchased American Home Life Insurance and changed the name to Cyrus Life Insurance.
